In my inbox this morning was the daily update from The Workbook Project raving about the "creativity" of artist David Horvitz, who started the Head in a Freezer meme. The author celebrates the project's "undeniable success at achieving what it set out to achieve"; 5000 pictures of strangers with their heads in Frigidaires is some kind of achievement I suppose.
These memes are a touching example of how the internet is still a relatively new toy, and we're all still dazzled by the coolness of it, and the look-how-it-connects-people-who-don't-even-know-each-other-ness of it is so totally,I mean really, uber cool, you guys...but I'm looking forward to when some of the shiny newness wears off and we move on to the "recycle something unexpected and blog about it" meme or the "take the hairy spider gently outside and post his picture" meme...can we put all that creative energy into memes that actually make the world a tiny bit nicer place? (or at least how about "Bully's Head in a Freezer" next time, Dave?)
